Waiting for the Taxi Waiting for the Plane

Another Waiting Poem

How many times have I written
and rewritten
this same poem
These identical thoughts

Whether in a doctors office
At an airport
In a shop while someone
is trying on another pair of shoes
that will end up not fitting
or a sweater that will
fall the wrong way

The best thing I can do
is to avoid falling asleep in public
by rewriting this poem
for the umpteenth time

You have read it before

Now, I will edit the spelling
and fool around
with the fine tuning,
it's either that or
one of two obvious activities:
nodding off or
rewriting a new version
of the Waiting poem.

Do they serve lunch around here?
